Introducing recommended winter spots in Jozankei

Snow Light Path

The Snow Art Festival is held every year in late January. About 2,000 snow candles light up the grounds of Jozankei Shrine in a fantastic way. Once you leave the snow candle area, you will come to the "Forest of Prayer" where light and images blend with nature. Please dress warmly.
*Guests staying at Jozankei Onsen can enter for free.

Steam Lumina

An illumination event held all year round in the center of the hot spring town.
You can relax in the foot bath and gaze upon the glittering illuminations amidst the snowy scenery, or enjoy taking photos at the photo spots.

Jozankei Mikasa Ski Resort

A great family-friendly slope for playing in the snow.
You can enjoy the fluffy snow to your heart's content with the free sleds and rental snowshoes. It's a great place for children to play in the snow for the first time, as it's a casual experience. *There are no lifts.

Snowshoe walk

Rent snowshoes at Jozankei Mikasa Ski Resort! (No reservation required)
You are free to use it anywhere during the rental time. We recommend Kappabuchi Park and Ikoi Hiroba for a stroll. Please enjoy the winter forest of Jozankei, which is inaccessible in the summer.

Wild Mustangs

Experience horse riding at the foot of Mt. Hakkensan!
This is a popular activity for families, as parents and children can ride together on the horse. Enjoy horse trekking through the snowy winter forest.

Jozan Spring Park (foot bath and hand bath)

This park was built to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the mountain ascetic monk, Biizumi Jozan, who developed Jozankei Onsen. There are foot baths and hand baths scattered throughout the park. Warming your feet in a foot bath will warm you to the core even in the cold. At Ontama no Yu, you can make hot spring eggs using the spring water, which is over 80 degrees Celsius.

Taro's Foot Bath

A free foot bath located at the Sapporo entrance to Jozankei Onsen town along National Route 230. It has a gazebo-style roof, so you don't have to worry about snow. The modern octagonal bath is spacious enough for about 15 people to use at once, so you can relax and enjoy a bath with friends or a group.

Kappa Family's Prayer Hand Bath

This hand bath is free to use all year round. In order to show respect to King Kappa, pour hot water into the baby kappa's plate, wash your hands with the water that flows out of the kappa's mouth, face in the direction of King Kappa at Futami Park, chant "On Kappaya Unken Sowaka" three times, and make a wish, which is said to come true.

Lake Sapporo

A lake formed by damming the Jozankei Dam.
The first observation deck is a recommended spot where you can enjoy the beautiful winter scenery of the snow-covered trees and the vast lake.
